THE SHEET MUSIC OF MICROWAVE BACKGROUND RADIATION

Of course, the Big Bang was silent

as sound can’t travel through a vacuum

In the afterglow

molecules formed

and vibrations rippled energy waves

light years in length

A cosmic chord

the scream of an infant birth

building into a deep rasping roar

and ending in a deafening hiss

Like a jet engine descending into tv static

The first tree falling in the forest unheard

The echo of this heavenly choir

deep below the octaves of the human ear

become bacterium on a bowling ball

At its smallest everything is sound

a universal string section

the DNA of reality

If you listen you can hear harmony

in the pulse of your blood

and the sadness of minor chords

heard by the first humans
